WISCONSIN ARCHEOLOGICAL SOCIETY RESEARCH AWARD (WASRA)
Proposal Deadline: March 15, annually
The Wisconsin Archeological Society Research Award provides funding for research of past cultures within or directly related to the state of Wisconsin. The WASRA was initiated by the Society Board in 2003 to provide nominal funding to students and avocational archaeologists conducting research that contributes to the understanding of Wisconsin archaeology. In 2019, the Board expanded eligible applicants to include organizations such as county or local historical societies, and professionals who will facilitate training or mentoring of next-generation archaeologists. The primary objective of WASRA remains encouraging students or avocational archaeologists to become more involved in archaeological investigations through well-designed research projects.
WASRA applicants may apply for up to $1000 for collections-based research, site mapping, surveying and reporting, specialized analysis, research travel, etc. Past recipients have used funds for documenting Paleoindian artifacts in a private collection, radiocarbon dates, remote sensing, and archaeochemical analyses.
