Spring Meeting Reminder

As a reminder, the 2018 Wisconsin Archeological Society Spring Meeting will be taking place on Saturday, April 7th at the Oshkosh Public Museum from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM. If you have not marked your calendars, please do so. The meeting and events during the day are open to the public, but attendees must pay the $8 admission to get into the museum. Wisconsin Archeological Society members get in free to the museum. If you would like to become a member, please join us at: Membership Renewal.

There is a lot happening at the Spring Meeting. First, the business meeting will be taking place from 10 AM – 11 AM. The officers and committee chairs will give very short presentations on what is happening within the society. The focus of the business meeting is the vote on the revised by-laws, which were sent to you at the beginning of March and posted on the Society website for over 30 days. The Society Board hopes members will be able to attend the meeting to provide a vote on this important document. If these new laws are ratified, it will allow the board to conduct voting through electronic means (e.g., website survey polls) so all members can participate.

After the business meeting at 11 A.M. and in the afternoon at 2 P.M., Dr. Don Spohn will be happy to identify and talk about copper artifacts. Dr. Jeffery Behm will be giving a tour of the new permanent exhibit, “Peoples of the Waters.” Dr. Behm was a consultant during the planning and installation of the exhibit.

Before the main event, the Society is providing lunch for participants from 12 - 1 P.M. Subs, chips, cookies, and soda from Firehouse Subs will be offered.

The main event is a presentation by Dr. Spohn on “Prehistoric Copper Mining Tools.” For more information on the presentation, view the flyer here.

The agenda for the business meeting, events for the day, as well as directions and a Google Earth map to get to the Oshkosh Public Museum can be found here: Spring 2018 Meeting Agenda.

We are looking forward to seeing you at the meeting!
