Rock River Archaeology Society "Road Show"

  • Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center N7725 Wisconsin 28 Horicon, WI, 53032 United States (map)

On Wednesday, December 18th , the Rock River Archaeological Society will have their December meeting at 6:30 PM at the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center, N7725 Hwy 28, Horicon, WI., lower level.  The program for the evening is the annual “Road Show” where members and visitors are encouraged to bring in an interesting, strange, or unknown artifact to share with others.  The “Road Show” is really a fun event and unlike a similarly named show on TV, this is not an appraisal, but a chance to show off and learn about interesting things we have hidden in our garages and attics.  One at a time, participants come to the front of the room to show and talk about their item.  If it is a mystery item to the owner, there is a good chance that someone in the audience can identify it, or maybe they can stump the audience with “what is it?”

A silent auction will also be taking place at the December 18th, Road Show program.  Thanks to the flint nappers that attended our Festival, there are 3 items in the silent auction.  At the festival there was always a group of people standing and watching them create a work of art in the same manner that the early Native Americans made their tools.

David Becwar of Ferryville, Wi. is donating a Montana Agota. It is a lovely piece.

Robert Kerper is donating a beautiful Eden Point which he made during the Festival.  An Eden Point dates back to 9,500 BC.

Gary Eldred of Boscobel, WI, is donating a blade.  He says “This blade is a replica of the Scotts Bluff Alata point.  It’s made of Spanish Diggings quartzite from east central Wyoming.  The point would be called Late Paleo.”

All three of the items were donated to the Rock River Archaeological Society are replicas and the donations were made to help with fund raising for our 2020 Horicon Marsh Archaeology Festival.

This evening is a wonderful prelude to Christmas and you will not want to miss it.  It is also a great evening to greet old friends and make new ones.

After the “Road Show” there is delicious snack time for everyone to enjoy.  All are welcome to bring something edible to share and stay to enjoy the festivities. Everyone is invited to enjoy the refreshments, whether they are a member or not.
