Join us for the Charles E. Brown Archaeological Society Lecture. During the Spring and Summer of 2024, archaeologists from the Museum Archaeology Program of the Wisconsin Historical Society monitored ground disturbing activities associated with the South Water Street Reconstruction project in Sauk City , Wisconsin. During the archaeological monitoring a new archaeological site, the Sauk City Dump (47SK778) was identified, and several features associated with the Great Town of the Saukies (47SK357) were mitigated. This project serves a cautionary tale for archaeology in urban/residential areas usually considered to have disturbed contexts.
