Abstract: The introduction of LiDAR imaging to Wisconsin has revolutionized archaeological survey. Numerous effigy mound sites have been identified, revealing what may be one of Wisconsin’s best-preserved mounded landscapes in far southwestern Wisconsin. This new, fuller portrait of site distribution has, in turn, sparked reconsideration of how local communities reacted to the arrival of Middle Mississippian populations.
